Norske Akevitters Venner (Friends of the Norwegian Aquavit) is a nationwide, non-governmental cultural organization, founded in 1999.
The organization works to promote culture, and focuses on the role played by Norway’s national spirit – aquavit – in the country’s food and drink traditions.
Norwegian aquavit was first mentioned on 13th April 1531, and today it is made up of approx. 350 different brands, the most internationally-renowned being Lysholm Linie Aquavit.
Norske Akevitters Venner do not produce aquavit, but focus primarily on increasing the awareness of Norwegian Aquavit, both in Norway and internationally.
Norske Akevitters Venner serve as a consultative body for the authorities, and are often contacted as expertise in aquavit-related matters.
